Round 2 – 28/12/2018 – Eadons Fields

It was a Gas Gas domination at Sheffield & Hallamshire’s annual Christmas Trial held at Eadons Fields, with recent Gas Gas UK signing Richard Sadler making his trip down from North Yorkshire worthwhile by taking victory over fellow team riders Richard Timperley and Dan Thorpe.

It was to be a close affair, with 12 sections plotted in the streams and bankings requiring precise no-stop riding that would be happy to take prisoners if any mistakes were made. Sadler proved why he took the British Expert championship in 2018 by dropping just 7 for the day, with a superb clean final lap securing his victory. Meanwhile local rivals Timperley and Thorpe were at each other’s heels all day, Richard edging out his team mate on 12 marks to Dan’s 14. Fourth place was taken by Lee Sampson, who has recently returned to the sport after some time away, his score of 36 was enough to push Corey Dubik into fifth place on 38 marks.

It was another Gas Gas victory on the ever popular Clubman A route, with Darren Wasley cruising to victory on just 1 mark lost, dropped on his first lap on the tight twisting climb of section 11. Second position was taken by Sam Clarke, who proved that you don’t need the latest machinery by piloting his Yamaha Pinky round the 12 section course for just 13 marks, and despite an uncharacteristic 5 on his first lap he managed to secure second position over Mick Thompson in third. Mick, making the long trip up from Devon, took a 3 mark advantage over fourth place rider Katy Sunter, with fifth place taken by Gas Gas UK spannerman Factory Kev Hipwell a further 3 marks adrift.

Over on the Clubman B route, it was the legendary Dave Thorpe, again on a Gas Gas, who reigned victorious despite a rather nasty crash, on a score of just 14, edging out David Perry for second and Adam Wormald for third. The recently introduced Sportsman route saw Steve Ransom take a dominant victory on just 7 marks on his Yamaha Pinky, followed by the young determined Jack Owen on his Oset on 95 marks.

Sheffield & Hallamshire’s next trial is to be held on the 27th of January at Stonedge Quarry near Chesterfield.

S&H Results Round 1 Stonedge

A big thank you to Joe Spivey and Corey Dubik for setting out, thank you to Bex & Marilyn for sorting the entries & everyone else involved! Thanks to Paula for bringing her fantastic Chefswagon. We are making this a regular thing so please support her at future trials. Massive thanks to all the observers. On a slightly upsetting note, I don’t know the full details but, one of the observers handed their board back to the start tent after a disagreement with a couple of riders. We would like to remind all riders to be polite to the observers and should we hear of any further behaviour of this sort, we will be taking matters extremely seriously, which could result in the offending riders being banned from future trials by this club.

Thank you to all of the land owners for letting us use their land for all of the great sections and access between them. A huge thank you goes to Mill Farm for the superb start venue and facilities.

The Hallamshire Trial Observers list/info

Observers information is below for Sunday. Can all observers be at Mill Farm in plenty of time (7:30 am onwards) to collect their equipment, have a butty and a drink etc and then get to their section. There are rough ETA’s on the attached list but these are very rough as the ground is very dry so the riders may be a fair bit quicker than estimated.

The Hallamshire Trial – ACU Normandale Masters Championship

On Sunday 28th October, Sheffield & Hallamshire MCC are hosting ‘The Hallamshire Trial’ which is the final round of the ACU Normandale Masters Championship.

Originally this trial was due to be a resurrection of the Peak Trial which has been a round of the ACU Solo, Sidecar and Novogar (now S3) championships but the club have encountered land access issues at the last minute forcing the tough decision of whether to cancel or not.

The enthusiastic bunch at S&H don’t give up that easily though and after some stress and many phone calls and emails to landowners, Richard and Mark Timperley have managed to create a completely brand new 2 lap road based trial which is now centred in the small village of Barlow which is approximately 3 miles from Chesterfield and lies on the edge of the Peak District National Park so offers easy access for everybody.

The route is being finalised as you read this and it is looking like a 5 or so mile lap with 20 traditional sections so causes no fuelling issues as the last sections are at the start. Some sections may be familiar to some riders but the majority will be new and the potential for this trial going forward is massive as land is becoming available to us.

The usual Normandale classes are all catered for and there will also be a Clubman A & B class and Expert route for any non-championship riders.
The start venue offers a hard standing car park, on site café which will be serving food all day and permanent toilet facilities.

The start time is a bright and breezy 9:00 am for the first riders to ensure the best is made of the daylight available. The clocks go back the night before so everybody gets an extra hour in bed anyway!

Entries are now open via the ACU Online Entry system via this link: https://www.ride-acu.uk/Secure/Login.aspx?EventGUID=dc1ce3e8-d477-4702-827b-9928491a62a7

Entries close at midnight on 22/10/18. Please direct any further enquiries to Richard Timperley on 07545 468341 or via email: secretary.sheffandhallamtrials@gmail.com
