S&H Results Round 1 Stonedge

A big thank you to Joe Spivey and Corey Dubik for setting out, thank you to Bex & Marilyn for sorting the entries & everyone else involved! Thanks to Paula for bringing her fantastic Chefswagon. We are making this a regular thing so please support her at future trials. Massive thanks to all the observers. On a slightly upsetting note, I don’t know the full details but, one of the observers handed their board back to the start tent after a disagreement with a couple of riders. We would like to remind all riders to be polite to the observers and should we hear of any further behaviour of this sort, we will be taking matters extremely seriously, which could result in the offending riders being banned from future trials by this club.
ACU codes, anyone who has paid for our club membership and requires a ACU code to renew their licence please text ACU CODE + your name to 07545468341 and we’ll send your unique code in return. Our next trial is the annual Christmas Trial on the 27th December at Eadons Fields Dronfield starting at 10:30am. Please bring an observer as riders will receive a free ride in return but otherwise observers will be rewarded for their time. Please note that there will not be a butty van as Paula is away on her holidays. We hope to see you all there!

Brough Rough ‘N’ 2018 – Andy Atkinson Memorial – Charity Trial

This year’s Brough Rough ‘N’ was one of the toughest yet with the battering across the moorland. The brave 64 who attended had met again with the challenge that are the Brough Rough ‘N’ sections.
The rain made even the most straightforward section seem tricky! But all who rode enjoyed the course thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with some outstanding riding coming from Chris Alford, Joe Spivey and Chris Pearson. All of whom came close to taking the win from Rich Timperley who kept his calm and overcame the conditions to take the win with only a slack 1 to his name.

With Timps the newly crowned king of the Brough Rough N’ he will take home the Andy Atkinson memorial shield, being handed out for the 1st time. He is now the first of (we hope) many riders to hold this honour, until next year when it will be contended all over again!

Joe Spivey, Jonny Carr and Chris Pearson laid out the course and did a great job of handling the changing conditions overnight. Thanks to all the S&H team for the job of setting up on the day and helping raise money along the way.

All the riding aside we managed to raise over £1000 between the chosen charities, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Bluebell Wood Hospice.

A massive thank you goes to the landowner for allowing the event to take place and to all the observers who braved the cold and rain to support the event and make it as special as it always is. Thank you again to all who came and contributed without you it wouldn’t be possible.

Raffle Prizes – a big thank you to the following for donating prizes: Jitsie, Trickbits, Apico, GasGasUK, PutolineSplat Shop, 6t9, Sharon Bown, Rutland Arms, Bex Spivey Pomade Salon, Global Brands, Potters of Barnsley, plus the numerous other companies and individuals who generously donated so many great prizes.

Results Rd4 (+Oset Rd1): Offerton Hall – 29/04/2018

Sheffield & Hallamshire MCC hosted the final round of their 2017/2018 series, plus the first round of their 2018 Oset series at their new venue Offerton Hall near Hathersage in the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District. A venue previously used by the club as a group of sections in the Peak Trial, the venue has never been used for a club trial, however thanks to the efforts of the club and the enthusiastic land owner the use was secured, a very welcome result for the club and riders. Early morning showers cleared leaving a dry if chilly day for the 82 riders, consisting of 14 Osets and 68 main course riders.

On the hard route, Gavin Black was the surprise winner on 20 marks ahead of Corey Dubik on 25 with Richard Timperley rounding out the top three on 32. Section 3 was the first mark taker for the experts, a 4 foot step at a 45 degree angle with an awkward run up taking marks off all the riders bar Corey Dubik on his Acklams Splat Beta who was the only rider to go clean here all day. Section 4 was the only section where no expert went clean all day, the closest being Gavin Black having 2 sterling clean rides on the narrow slate waterfall.

The Clubman route was an ever close affair, topped by Davy Morewood on his Beta on 19 ahead of Fantic 240 mounted Paul Rose on 27. The fight for third place went down to a most cleans decider, with both Josh Atkinson and Sam Atherton dropping 32 marks, Josh pipping Sam to third by virtue of 22 cleans to Sam’s 21. Just 1 mark behind on 33 was Rob Bowyer in fine form on his mighty Triumph Twin, getting in some last minute practice before the Pre-65 Scottish. Section 4 again proved to be the toughest for the Clubmen, with just 3 cleans recorded all day, two from Morewood and one on his first lap from 6th place Andy Turner.

As always the easy route proved a popular choice, topped by Stephen Bisby on his Ossa Gripper, who stayed in single figures on 9 marks, ahead of Gas Gas mounted Andy Foot on 19 and Phil Sibley on his Honda TLR a further 7 marks adrift on 26. Section 2 was the major mark taker here, the very narrow gully took 5 from Bisby, and only 5th place man Paul Spivey recorded a clean here all day on his second lap.

The Oset riders tackled 9 sections under the support and guidance from Jonny Carr, who set out 3 routes for the 14 riders to choose from. On the hard route, Max Perry took top spot ahead of Jack Owen, who was attempting the hard route for the first time. On the middle route, Finlay Widdows reigned supreme just 6 marks ahead of Max Howarth, whilst on the easy route Grace South took the honours ahead of Rhys Finlay. It is great to see the future of trials enjoying their days out, long may it continue!

The club would like to say a big thank you to the organising team, the observers and the land owner for the use of his excellent venue and his superb hospitality on the day. Sheffield & Hallamshire’s next event is their ACU British Youth Championship round to be held on 10th June at Stonedge Quarry, entries are now open on the ACU website.

Results: John Bull Team Trial – Round 3 – 18/02/2018

The course was a gruelling journey through streams, up steep, slippery banks with a couple of waterfalls thrown in for good measure. On top of all of that, there was plenty of mud to be churned up in the wheels. Early riders found this to be a great challenge. The expert class riders took this challenge in their stride, which resulted in some outstanding riding for the likes of Dan Thorpe, Rich Timperly, and Luke Walker. The trial attracted a host of youth riders on smaller machines, who all made an excellent effort at each section, especially Josh Whitting on his Oset who battled through the conditions all day.

With a turnout of over 90 riders, the day was set to be eventful and challenging. This turned out to be especially true for Sheffield and Hallamshire Club rider Joe Spivey who took a harrowing fall from the top of one of the steepest banks of the circuit, resulting in a emergency exit to the A&E. A swift response by a great team of spectators, riders and observers saw him delivered safetly into the hands of the paramedics. Even with the accident the Hallamshire team stayed focused and put in a strong effort to finish the trial.

A big well done to all of the teams and riders that made it to the trial and took part. The season looks to be full of strong competition and great riding.
